Currently, Ford is facing several legal actions related to the Powershift (DPS6) transmission issues. This ill-reputed transmission found application in Fiesta and Focus models. In the latest Powershift-related judicial case, a couple, who pulled out of the class-action lawsuit, filed a lawsuit against Ford in connection with the problematic gearbox installed in their 2014 Focus car.

Ricardo has recently showcased the initial results of an R&D initiative to design a scalable Electric Drive Unit (EDU) for oncoming e-cars at the CTI Symposium 2019 in China. The technology being designed by Ricardo engineers consists of a highly-efficient space-saving e-machine and power inverter, paired to a multi-speed powershift transmission.
