Friction clutches operate in pair with steel discs by anology with clutches in manual gearboxes. Pressed to steel discs, friction clutches connect two rotating shafts of the automatic transmission. Friction clutches may be divided into 2 groups: 1) clutches with higher torque transmission threshold 2) clutches which slip better and more resistant to overheating.
