MAHLE Takes Over Fellow German Transmission Company
Recently, it has transpired that MAHLE, one of the leading providers of auto parts worldwide, is going to purchase the company ZG-Zahnräder und Getriebe GmbH, located near Munich in Germany and specialized in development and production of innovative transmission solutions.
Thanks to this deal, MAHLE wants to broaden its
competence in the powertrain in general, and in transmission technologies in
particular. It is especially important because integrated drive systems (IDS)
gain more popularity in electric cars.
Moreover, this takeover has great strategic
importance, since MAHLE will be able to provide its customers with integrated
powertrain units, including gearbox design, from a single source.

According to MAHLE officials, this deal is a
move forward in the diversification of MAHLE products and company’s competitive
growth on the market of powertrain technologies.
IDS solutions are claimed to be more
advantageous than individual units, because their elements are well-formed,
their design can be more space-saving, and they can be adjusted to use in
different types of vehicles.
