Eaton Cummins Presents New Product
Eaton Cummins Automated Transmission Technologies, a joint venture between Eaton and Cummins Inc. that specializes in technological solutions for medium- and high capacity trucks, has released its new Endurant 12-speed automated gearbox.
This product is not just upgraded manual gearbox, Endurant is designed from scratch as a fully automated gearbox. After detailed analysis of the market trends and demands of customers, hard work on development of the gearbox prototype, Endurant was exposed to rigorous testing including cold testing, hot testing, dynamometer testing, abusive vehicle testing, and early field testing, which proved high quality of this product.
Due to all-aluminum enclosure, this gearbox weights less than competitive products and provides better thermal optimization. The max torque capacity equals to 1850 LB-FT (2500 Nm). The Endurant TCU perfectly interacts with vehicle and engine systems, facilitating fuel economy and better operational characteristics. The electrical and pneumatic systems of this gearbox are routed internally to minimize opportunities for exposure and corrosion of gearbox parts. The innovative gear set design provides best-in-class ratio coverage and helps enable the lowest cruising RPM in comparison with competitive products for maximum fuel efficiency. The gearbox also includes 8-bolt PTO mechanism that increases car’s flexibility.
Engineers of Endurant also introduced the following features:
- Transmission fluid pressure sensor, which notifies a driver when the oil level is too low;
- Clutch life prognostics gives notifications, which inform about necessity to change clutch in advance
- Self-adjust clutch ensures great launch and low-speed maneuverability
- Transmission oil operates 250.000 miles longer while using half as much lubricant as competitive gearboxes.
The union of two major companies helped to design extremely efficient transmission solution, which should meet all expectations of their customers, and the list of above-mentioned advantages of this innovative product prove serious intentions of Eaton and Cummins to dominate in this field.
