Modern auto industry is full of sophisticated drivetrain technologies which are supposed to make your driving experience even more pleasant and trouble-free. Despite a great abundance of sophisticated technical solutions, it is highly likely that very few people know a transmission solution operating like a manual CVT.

Over recent years engineers developed a lot of gear shifting solutions for different car brands, which may seem a bit unusual for oldtime drivers. In this article we will review the most peculiar gear stick technologies and provide video materials related to these technologies.

Only few people know about transmission concepts which were popular 70-90 years ago. For men of today, these gearboxes may seem very unusual and weird, but even now some gearboxes that date back to those years are quite competitive in comparison with modern transmissions.

Nowadays Extroid CVTs are commonly known as “toroidal” due to the fact that the working surface of driving and driven discs in this transmission has the form of a torus. Extroid CVT is not a V-belt transmission, but a friction drive CVT.

Lucas Oil Presents New Products

Lucas Oil Products Inc., a major producer and supplier of automotive lubricating solutions, has recently presented its new FL-0 Low Viscosity Synthetic Racing Oil and Semi-Synthetic Type F ATF during the PRI 2019 Show.

Like other solutions presented in the company’s portfolio, these two new products went through complex development cycles within a few years. Stimulated by Lucas’ vast experience, the new racing oil and ATF are ideal for performance-oriented applications, and the PRI show turned out to be a great chance to present these innovative products to the automotive experts.

The FL-0 racing oil is described as a first-class and very effective lubricant for racing engines that is optimal for Pro Stock racing or any application utilizing low-viscosity oils. This product is developed not only to decrease drag, but at the same time to prevent any significant damage to the main engine elements. This product is intended for more regular running conditions and, because of its lightweight, is perfect for dragsters or other high-performance engines. This product also had been subjected to extensive testing before it was presented to visitors of the PRI show. Company’s engineers manage to create efficient lubricants that comply with the highest standards of quality, thanks to elaborate R&D programs.

The new ATF solution is the latest addition to Lucas’ range of lubricants used in racing transmissions. This fluid is developed leveraging top-level base oils complemented by an advanced additive package, including wear-resistant, oxidation as well as rust preventative agents. The new Type F fluid is expected to operate under severe conditions, providing the particular properties that racing teams want to see in ATFs used in their cars.

While some other companies try to set up rebranded versions of old products as new ones, Lucas Oil takes advantage of partnerships in the racing industry, which help the company to come up with new products and thoroughly test unique solutions in practice. With the new transmission fluid being non-friction modified, it can guarantee improved gear shifting. Lucas recommends using this ATF in vehicles equipped with C4 and C6 automatic transmissions.
