Probably every transmission repair specialist was keen on LEGO constructions or at least enjoyed making some minor things with their hands. Here's the game taken to a new level of creativity!

Modern auto industry is full of sophisticated drivetrain technologies which are supposed to make your driving experience even more pleasant and trouble-free. Despite a great abundance of sophisticated technical solutions, it is highly likely that very few people know a transmission solution operating like a manual CVT.

Over recent years engineers developed a lot of gear shifting solutions for different car brands, which may seem a bit unusual for oldtime drivers. In this article we will review the most peculiar gear stick technologies and provide video materials related to these technologies.

Only few people know about transmission concepts which were popular 70-90 years ago. For men of today, these gearboxes may seem very unusual and weird, but even now some gearboxes that date back to those years are quite competitive in comparison with modern transmissions.

Nowadays Extroid CVTs are commonly known as “toroidal” due to the fact that the working surface of driving and driven discs in this transmission has the form of a torus. Extroid CVT is not a V-belt transmission, but a friction drive CVT.

MAHLE Service Solutions Introduces New Service Unit

From year to year automatic transmissions become more sophisticated and popular among automakers and auto enthusiasts. The demand for automatic transmissions spurs the development of workshops which require innovative tools to provide high quality repair solutions. Thus, MAHLE Service Solutions, a division of MAHLE Aftermarket, released a new generation of the transmission service unit named as ATX 180.

This piece of equipment mainly deals with issues related to the transmission oil. With the help of this service unit, workshops can render the oil change services in environmentally-friendly, cost-conscious and efficient manner. An easy-to-use ATX 180 database presents quick access to detailed data on up-to-date car specifications, required volume of the gear oil, oil type, as well as the information about filter and adapter that facilitates diagnostics operations.

The new version of ATX also can operate in the “dipstick” mode, which helps to carry out the service through the guiding tube of the dipstick. The oil pan suction is carried out automatically that significantly simplifies the oil filter replacement. The developed safety concept guarantees constant monitoring of the feeding and outflow of the transmission oil. As a result it provides required oil level in the process of the gearbox flushing. The indication and adaption to the flow direction is preformed automatically.

ATX 180 also includes a new service concept called “Zero cross”, which ensures safe and convenient oil grade change and helps to avoid the mixing of different oil types. Together with recently released oil filters the ATX 180 service unit presents a full-scale service which prolongs the operating period of the automatic gearbox.
