Probably every transmission repair specialist was keen on LEGO constructions or at least enjoyed making some minor things with their hands. Here's the game taken to a new level of creativity!

Modern auto industry is full of sophisticated drivetrain technologies which are supposed to make your driving experience even more pleasant and trouble-free. Despite a great abundance of sophisticated technical solutions, it is highly likely that very few people know a transmission solution operating like a manual CVT.

Over recent years engineers developed a lot of gear shifting solutions for different car brands, which may seem a bit unusual for oldtime drivers. In this article we will review the most peculiar gear stick technologies and provide video materials related to these technologies.

Only few people know about transmission concepts which were popular 70-90 years ago. For men of today, these gearboxes may seem very unusual and weird, but even now some gearboxes that date back to those years are quite competitive in comparison with modern transmissions.

Nowadays Extroid CVTs are commonly known as “toroidal” due to the fact that the working surface of driving and driven discs in this transmission has the form of a torus. Extroid CVT is not a V-belt transmission, but a friction drive CVT.

2019 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE Becomes Automatic

When Chevrolet launched its Camaro ZL1 1LE, the only implemented transmission was a 6-speed manual. Now, potential customers have got a choice between manual or automatic: the 2019 Camaro model will be equipped with the GM’s 10-speed automatic gearbox.

Taking into account the recent trends in the field of automotive transmissions, namely the growing popularity of automatic transmissions, Chevrolet came up with a reasonable solution to add the automatic option. Chevrolet, like all carmakers, does its best not only to stay competitive on the market, but also to make as much money as possible, therefore the automatic transmission turned out to be a great solution. Chevrolet engineers say that this automatic gearbox is adjusted for enhanced speed characteristics. Thanks to this transmission, you drivers should not be professional racers to shift gears like they do.

But engineers could not just replace the existing manual gearbox with the automatic one. The car itself had to be adjusted to the new gearbox solution (the Multimatic DSSV spool valve dampers were adjusted for faster gear shifting). Engineers also added another cooler and a new oil pan. Except for the gearbox, the 2019 Camaro model is similar to its predecessor. According to Chevrolet, the testing result of the automatic Camaro is 1.5 seconds faster, than the manual version, but a specific time hasn’t been revealed.

You can order the 2019 Chevy Camaro equipped with the automatic gearbox starting late February.
