Modern auto industry is full of sophisticated drivetrain technologies which are supposed to make your driving experience even more pleasant and trouble-free. Despite a great abundance of sophisticated technical solutions, it is highly likely that very few people know a transmission solution operating like a manual CVT.

Over recent years engineers developed a lot of gear shifting solutions for different car brands, which may seem a bit unusual for oldtime drivers. In this article we will review the most peculiar gear stick technologies and provide video materials related to these technologies.

Only few people know about transmission concepts which were popular 70-90 years ago. For men of today, these gearboxes may seem very unusual and weird, but even now some gearboxes that date back to those years are quite competitive in comparison with modern transmissions.

Nowadays Extroid CVTs are commonly known as “toroidal” due to the fact that the working surface of driving and driven discs in this transmission has the form of a torus. Extroid CVT is not a V-belt transmission, but a friction drive CVT.

2021 Ford Bronco May Get A Manual Option

Recently, the automotive world finally has seen the releases of long-awaited Supra and C8 Corvette. The main peculiarity of these models is the lack of manual options. It proves the point that manual transmissions gradually become obsolete and economically unviable, even in sports cars. While sports car enthusiasts more and more often have to find a tuning company for a transmission conversion service, it seems like Ford is preparing a surprise for fans of its off-road segment. According to numerous media rumors, the upcoming 2021 Ford Bronco will have a manual option.

However, it is important to point out that the automaker neither confirmed nor denied the rumors. It is claimed that the news leaked from some Ford dealer. According to this source, the new Bronco will combine classic design and a lot of sophisticated features as well as two gearbox options (automatic and manual). The possibility of the manual option is supported by the fact that the Bronco will get 33-inch off-road tires.

The thing is that these two features will make the new off-roader from Ford the main competitor of the Jeep Wrangler, which also has two abovementioned design features. The same sources have confirmed that the Ford Ranger-based Bronco will come in two and four-door configurations.

Ford recently applied for several patents that may be related to the production version. These include removable doors, removable or retractable roof, modular grille that can accept a winch, and more. Thus far, nearly two years since the announcement of the Bronco’s long-awaited return, Ford has only officially confirmed that the Bronco will get a hybrid variant. It is still unknown when the new Bronco will be officially presented to the automotive world, but the upcoming 2019 LA Auto Show seems like the right place.
