Probably every transmission repair specialist was keen on LEGO constructions or at least enjoyed making some minor things with their hands. Here's the game taken to a new level of creativity!

Modern auto industry is full of sophisticated drivetrain technologies which are supposed to make your driving experience even more pleasant and trouble-free. Despite a great abundance of sophisticated technical solutions, it is highly likely that very few people know a transmission solution operating like a manual CVT.

Over recent years engineers developed a lot of gear shifting solutions for different car brands, which may seem a bit unusual for oldtime drivers. In this article we will review the most peculiar gear stick technologies and provide video materials related to these technologies.

Only few people know about transmission concepts which were popular 70-90 years ago. For men of today, these gearboxes may seem very unusual and weird, but even now some gearboxes that date back to those years are quite competitive in comparison with modern transmissions.

Nowadays Extroid CVTs are commonly known as “toroidal” due to the fact that the working surface of driving and driven discs in this transmission has the form of a torus. Extroid CVT is not a V-belt transmission, but a friction drive CVT.

250,000th Allison Transmission from Hungary

250,000th Allison Transmission from Hungary

Allison Transmission’s plant in Hungary has recently broken new ground by finishing its 250,000th automatic transmission. The product, which marked this achievement, is the 4000 Series Torqmatic assembled at this facility at the commission of the Belgian company Van Hool, specialized in production of buses, trolleybuses, and trailers.

The Van Hool officials congratulated Allison on this impressive success and pointed out the particular importance of Allison products for his company. For four years, Van Hool buses (coaches) have been supplied with Allison gear shifting solutions and the number of Allison-equipped buses continues to increase. The bus drivers are extremely satisfied with operational characteristics of Allison units, which ensure comfortable driving and low-maintenance.

To mark the event, many workers came together to honor their tremendous milestone reached after almost two decades of assembling gear shifting units in Hungary. Peter Rezsnyak, the head of the manufacturing facility in Hungary expressed great pride of this achievement and of the people who every day contributed to this impressive number by their dedicated work.

Apart from North America, Allison has plants only in India and in Hungary. The facility in Hungary provides 3000 and 4000 Series of Allison solutions to be delivered to OEMs all over the world. The facility, which opened 19 years ago, then part of GM, moved to its current well-equipped place in 2011. Firstly, the facility was mainly focused on the assembly of 3000 Series units, which was later complemented with 4000 units. At the new facility, the company had sufficient infrastructure for the “customization center” – where experts prepare gearboxes for the practical usage. All workers at the Hungarian facility are sufficiently trained to comply with the highest standards of Allison to provide European customers with top-quality products.

Moreover, seven years ago, a special ACE center was opened in Hungary. This initiative allows all interested parties to become familiar with the company and its products with their own eyes. At ACE different vehicles equipped with Allison units can be driven and demonstrated, allowing customers to estimate performance capacities of these efficient transmissions.
