Allison Provides Transmission Solution for GMC Sierra
Allison Transmission has announced that its
10-speed automatic gearbox will be installed in the new Sierra heavy-duty
truck. The truck will hit the market in the second half of 2019.
GMC, the Allison-branded automatic gearbox,
produced by GM, was created to ensure increased operation characteristics and
fuel efficiency, adaptability, ease of use, and durability. This 10-speed
solution is paired with a 6.6 liter
Duramax diesel engine (445 hp.), providing
1233 Nm of torque. Such combination is supposed to significantly increase fuel
economy and to improve towing capacity of the truck.

GMC representatives claim that the
transportation capacity of heavy goods with the help of a trailer is one of the
most relevant features for Sierra customers and Allison’s solution became an
excellent addition to Sierra’s design. The closer gear spacing of this gearbox
enables the engine to work in an optimal range with different loads and road
surface conditions.

GM and Allison have a successful record of cooperation in the field of gearbox solutions. For example, Allison’s gearbox has also been selected for another well-known heavy-duty truck 2020 Silverado HD. Although the company did not reveal the price of the new truck, it is expected the new Sierra HD will cost no less than $ 35,000. GMC officials also informed that the company actively works on development of the fully electric GMC Sierra version and an unknown electric SUV model.
