Allison Provides Transmission Solution for Road Repair Trucks
Archway Products, the Irish company specialized in manufacturing of advanced road repair machinery, selected Allison’s 3000 Series transmission for its latest road repair vehicle named Roadmaster. The company has manufactured more than eight dozen Roadmasters on different chassis and Allison’s gear shifting solutions look like the best match for them.
According to Archway’s officials, the company
opted for Allison because of enhanced reliability, fuel economy and operability
of its products. The Roadmaster is a special vehicle that's used to repair
potholes and other defects on roads and highways and also ensures preventative
maintenance to avoid appearance of the abovementioned problems on road surfaces.
The Allison makes this hard work much easier.
Allison 3000 Series transmission
The new Roadmaster is equipped with D8K Euro VI
engine paired with the automatic gear shifting solution from Allison. Thanks to
Allison’s sophisticated technologies, torque gets doubled with the help of the patented
torque converter. The process of gear shifting is performed without delays, ensuring
the smooth transmission of power to the drive wheels and max efficiency between
engine and gearbox. To further improve the efficiency of operation on uneven
terrain, the Roadmaster has a low-ratio back-axle.
Road Repair Truck Roadmaster
The 3000 Series system is intended for medium trucks in a wide variety of applications. This transmission may also feature the PTO mechanism available as an option. Operating characteristics are also improved by advanced electronic controls, which also have prediction functionalities. Archway has been collaborating with Allison since launching its production in 2002. However, not everyone in the company was enthusiastic about using an automatic transmission on road repair vehicles, but very soon reliable and advanced Allison units dispelled all doubts. Thanks to these advanced automatics, Roadmaster do not have to think about operating a manual clutch (which frequently fails) used in manual transmissions and the focus will be solely on the road ahead.
