BorgWarner Provides New Transfer Case for 2019 Ram 1500 Trucks
BorgWarner (BW) has recently announced that its electromechanical on-demand (EMOD) transfer case will be applied in the 2019 Ram 1500 vehicles. EMOD technology is based on well-known BW’s TOD technology, which provides active “On-Demand” AWD capability.
The advanced EMOD
solution has better response characteristics and increased torque output for
enhanced performance parameters under different road conditions. BW’s product
allows carmakers to perform not complicated traction adjustment; EMOD is
suitable for application in a wide range of cars, from moderate-size
off-roaders to heavy vehicles. EMOD torque divider ensures improved clutch
operating control and better activating capabilities. BW has been providing TOD
mechanisms to Ram for a long time.
The main feature of BW’s new transfer case is an
engine-operated rotating camshaft unit, which ensures not only improved clutch
operating control, but also a greater range shifting capacity. The active
clutch engagement solution provides increased output torque, linear clutch
response and early clutch locking torque without any rear-wheel spinning. To
park on undulating terrain, BW’s solution allows holding of front/rear locking
torque while the ignition is switched off. Besides, BW’s new transfer case is fitted
with HY-VO drivetrain chain, intended for high efficiency and time-proof
operating characteristics.

More about Transfer Case
The transfer case is an inseparable part of the car
with the AWD system. This unit distributes the torque between front and rear axles
of the car and increases the torque when the car moves on heavy roads or
off-the-road. The design of the transfer case may differ depending on the type
of the AWD system. But at the same time, it is possible to single out general
structural components of the transfer case: drive shaft, interaxle differential
with the locking mechanism, chain drive and underdrive, as well as drive shafts
of the front and rear axles. The transfer case is usually mounted between the
car transmission and the shafts leading to the axles. The list of major transfer
case manufacturers includes well-known automakers and producers of spare parts:
ZF, Toyota, Eaton, Dana, BorgWarner.
