Fiat Chrysler Again Suffers from Car Recall Caused by Transmission Issue
Recently, Fiat Chrysler has announced the recall of more than 300,000 Dodge Dart cars in North America because of a transmission issue that can lead to gear shifting failures.
News report related to the recall
According to the official documents, the recall list includes all Darts models included in 2013-16 lines. To be more precise, transmission cable bushings might get out of order under the influence of high temperatures and moisture, resulting in the shift cable breakdown. In this case, the driver will be unable to put the car into any gear, including the P gear. It is fair to assume that a car, which, when supposed to be in the P gear (from the driver’s perspective), in reality turns out to be not in the P gear, can become a prerequisite for an accident situation.
Dodge Dart
The automaker claims that there are no known road accidents related to the issue, but the company’s officials didn’t deny the fact that there were numerous repair cases caused by the abovementioned issue. To fix the problem, the carmaker takes on the obligation to replace the faulty shifter cable bushings on the transmission side with a more reliable part totally free of charge.
The company plans to inform the owners of the recalled
cars in the late spring 2019. Until then, the owners of defected models are
being recommended to apply the parking brake and ensure that the car is turned
off before getting out of their cars.
Anton Yelchin
FCA faced similar transmission issues in the past. Several years ago, more than a million Jeeps, Dodges, and Chryslers were recalled because of gear shifting failures. The recall campaign included the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee, a car owned by perished actor Anton Yelchin. Yelchin died after he was pinned between the Jeep and his mailbox. Yelchin's family later started a court case against the carmaker. Last year, the suit was settled out of court.
