Probably every transmission repair specialist was keen on LEGO constructions or at least enjoyed making some minor things with their hands. Here's the game taken to a new level of creativity!

Modern auto industry is full of sophisticated drivetrain technologies which are supposed to make your driving experience even more pleasant and trouble-free. Despite a great abundance of sophisticated technical solutions, it is highly likely that very few people know a transmission solution operating like a manual CVT.

Over recent years engineers developed a lot of gear shifting solutions for different car brands, which may seem a bit unusual for oldtime drivers. In this article we will review the most peculiar gear stick technologies and provide video materials related to these technologies.

Only few people know about transmission concepts which were popular 70-90 years ago. For men of today, these gearboxes may seem very unusual and weird, but even now some gearboxes that date back to those years are quite competitive in comparison with modern transmissions.

Nowadays Extroid CVTs are commonly known as “toroidal” due to the fact that the working surface of driving and driven discs in this transmission has the form of a torus. Extroid CVT is not a V-belt transmission, but a friction drive CVT.

Fiat Spider 124 Is Recalled for Transmission Problem

Chrysler has recently started the recall campaign of Fiat Spider 124 cars equipped with Aisin RWD automatic transmissions. The recall list will include approx. 9,000 cars produced from 2017 to 2019. The problem is that the recalled cars can suddenly shift down without any notifications because of issues with the TCM.

According to the relevant/competent authorities, the abovementioned transmission issue is caused by some software faults occurring in TCM units. Electrical interference in the range signal may be identified while engaging the D gear. Because of incorrect control algorithm of the clutch software in the TCM, the signal interference may cause the downshifting problem, leading to a sudden slow downing. This would have a negative impact on road holding, increasing the possibility of control loss and potentially leading to a road accident.

Chrysler learned about the abovementioned issue at the start of the year when Mazda launched a recall of similar MX-5 Miata cars because of the same TCM software issue. Mazda decided to launch a preventative safety recall and take measures to fix the issue. Chrysler had not received any complaints or warranty claims related to the issue. Company officials also claim that they have no information about any car crashes or injuries related to this issue. However, Chrysler is determined to start a safety recall of the enlisted cars.

In late March, Chrysler will inform owners of affected cars. Dealers take an obligation to solve the downshifting issue by updating the TCM software at no cost.
