Ford Extended Warranty On Fiesta And Focus Coming Soon
Not long ago, Ford took on the obligation on the warranty extension on the problematic Powershift installed in thousands of Ford Focus and Ford Fiesta models. Notifications for owners of affected cars have not been sent out so far, but the American Auto Giant has established a specific timeline for owners to be notified about their transmission warranty extensions, namely after.
These documents should allow owners of Ford
Fiesta and Focus to receive free-of-charge repair of Powershift clutches or the
right for financial compensation if they covered repair expenses by themselves
beforehand. The notifications come approximately 3 weeks after Ford firstly
indicated its intention to prolong the Powershift warranty.
T.R. Reid, the representative of Ford,
explained why issuing notifications can be time-consuming. Firstly, all field
service actions start with notifications to dealers so they can have all
arranged. Only after dealers are put into the picture, customers receive
corresponding notifications. The written notices are to be distributed only after
Ford downloads VINs, compares them with owner names and addresses, and finally
approve them. Depending on the quantity of cars involved, this procedure may
persist for several weeks. That is why there is nothing strange in the fact
that more than 600 thousand Fiesta and Focus owners will receive notifications
on the Powershift unit warranty extension in September. In addition to the
clutch repair, some owners may require also the TCM unit to be updated.
However, the Detroit Free Press claims that some
owners of cars with defected gearboxes have been getting contradictory
feedbacks from Ford dealerships, as some dealers are refusing warranty coverage
and compensations. Some car owners are sure that Ford would never offer such a
solution to the problem, if it weren’t for the scandal caused by the Powershift
investigation. At the same time, this media source recognizes the fact that some
owners of cars with defective transmissions have received all agreed warranty
services.
Despite numerous assurances from Ford that now the Powershift situation is under control, some experts claim that Powershift unit issues will never disappear completely. According to their observations, Ford’s numerous software updates or even complete transmission unit replacement did not eliminate all the issues. Therefore, some independent technicians recommend selling affected Focus and Fiesta models.
