Geely Brings the Production of Aisin Transmissions to China
The Chinese company Geely stated that they established a joint venture with Aisin Seiki, the Japanese manufacturer of automatic transmissions, to produce 6-speed FWD automatic gearboxes and relevant spare parts in China.
The joint venture, having the authorized
capital equal to $117 million, will be owned by Geely (40%) and Aisin (60%).
The Chinese automaker informed that the enterprise, starting manufacturing in
2020 with the production output capacity of 400 thousand gearboxes per year,
will ensure a consistent supply of transmissions for Geely vehicles.
According to Geely representatives, the company’s current gearbox output rate does not correspond to its growing demand. In addition, the new enterprise can provide more efficient transmission solutions. Thanks to the partnership with Aisin, Geely hopes to enhance its level of R&D and production capacity in the direction of sophisticated powertrain solutions. Both companies are determined to start a lasting and mutually profitable cooperation.
