Modern auto industry is full of sophisticated drivetrain technologies which are supposed to make your driving experience even more pleasant and trouble-free. Despite a great abundance of sophisticated technical solutions, it is highly likely that very few people know a transmission solution operating like a manual CVT.

Over recent years engineers developed a lot of gear shifting solutions for different car brands, which may seem a bit unusual for oldtime drivers. In this article we will review the most peculiar gear stick technologies and provide video materials related to these technologies.

Genesis G70 Sticks with a Manual Option for 2020

In recent years, the whole automobile industry has been full of talks about an imminent end of manual gearboxes. Nowadays even Europe, known as a harbor of manuals, starts shifting to more advanced and easy-to-operate automatic solutions, let alone the US market. But, fortunately, some automakers are still not ready to drop manuals from their line-ups.

The Genesis G70 sports sedan is starting its 2-nd model year with several upgrades and an insignificant price rise. Admirers of manually shifted cars are certainly happy to find out that the manual option will be available for the 2020 model, but initially it was planned to include a gear stick variant only for the 2019 model.

Despite the fact the take rate of the manual model currently stands at 4% of total G70 sales, the South Korean car manufacturer still sees market potential in the manual transmission. In fact, Genesis Motor remains the only brand in the segment with the manual option in its latest line-up, as other competitive brands decided to stick with automatic and hybrid solutions.

The remaining part of the G70 line-up is pretty much the same as the last year’s variants, with several hundred dollars being added to price tags for most configurations. The 2.0T version starts at $36,445, a $550 extra, the 3.3T model starts at $47,095, a $600 increase, and the stand-alone 2.0T Sport M/T trim level with a classic gear stick starts at $39,495, $600 price increase compared to the last year model. The AWD variant remains a $2000 option for all automatic models, and the various Elite, Prestige, and Sport packages remain.
