Hyundai Transys Expands Production of Transmissions in India

Hyundai Transys, the provider of car elements owned by the Hyundai Motor Group, has recently reported that the company plans to build its 2-nd production facility in India. According to reliable information sources, the plant, which will occupy an area of 0.9 mln sq ft (83.5 thousand sq m), is to be constructed in Andhra Pradesh. The main objective of this undertaking is to make 5-speed and 6-speed manual gearboxes for Kia models produced in India.


Transmission Solutions provided by Hyundai Transys


The annual output capacity of the future production facility will reach approx 180 thousand gearboxes. The plant will be put in operation in the late summer-early autumn 2019. The amount of investment in the plant building has not been disclosed yet. It is interesting to note that Hyundai Transys already has a production facility in Chennai where it produces seating units. The car parts manufacturer provides seats to almost all the Hyundai passenger cars in India.


Hyundai Transys specializes in production of different types of gearboxes (manual, DCT and CVT). The company’s 6-speed manual gearboxes are installed in Hyundai’s Verna and Elantra models as well as in Kia’s Rio and K3 models, while its 5-speed manual gearboxes found application in Hyundai’s Grand i10 and Elite i20 along with Kia’s Picanto and Stonic models all over the world. Hyundai Transys also provides dual-clutch and hybrid gearboxes for several Hyundai models.



Hyundai Transys has 21 production facilities worldwide and 2 R&D centers. The company was founded in 1994 and became the leading gearbox provider for Hyundai cars in 1997. In 2004, the company also started manufacturing car seats. The company continues to fulfill its potential and actively develops production capacities all over the world. Hyundai Transys officials claim that the company is capable of manufacturing approximately 6.32 mln gearboxes and 4.3 mln seating units annually.
