New Indian Military Vehicle Comes with Allison Transmission Unit

Allison Transmission, the world-renowned provider of automatic transmission solutions, supplied the Allison X1100-5A3 unit for the military project in India. As a part of this project, the Indian company L&T has recently supplied the first batch of 51 K9 Vajra-T tracked self-propelled gun systems equipped with Allison Automatics to the Indian military forces before the agreed schedule. It is expected that the remaining part of the machines will be delivered by the end of this year.


X1100-5A3 Series transmission


Allison’s X1100 Series is a cross-drive transmission intended for either military or heavy-duty tracked vehicles. This sophisticated gear shifting unit is a tangible embodiment of the Allison’s solid experience and expertise accumulated thanks to the company’s long-time cooperation with the military sector. Enhanced performance capacity and robustness of these automatics under severe operating conditions allowed Allison to gain recognition in the global military industry.


K9 Vajra-T


Powered by the 1,000 hp diesel engine, the K9 Vajra vehicle is operated by a five-man crew. Weighing about 50 tons, these military vehicles can fire 47kg shells at 43-kilometre distant targets. It can also turn around at zero radius. The reliability and enhanced maneuvering capacities of the Allison X1100 unit is perfect for military applications that must operate properly in roughest environments.
