Probably every transmission repair specialist was keen on LEGO constructions or at least enjoyed making some minor things with their hands. Here's the game taken to a new level of creativity!

Modern auto industry is full of sophisticated drivetrain technologies which are supposed to make your driving experience even more pleasant and trouble-free. Despite a great abundance of sophisticated technical solutions, it is highly likely that very few people know a transmission solution operating like a manual CVT.

Over recent years engineers developed a lot of gear shifting solutions for different car brands, which may seem a bit unusual for oldtime drivers. In this article we will review the most peculiar gear stick technologies and provide video materials related to these technologies.

Only few people know about transmission concepts which were popular 70-90 years ago. For men of today, these gearboxes may seem very unusual and weird, but even now some gearboxes that date back to those years are quite competitive in comparison with modern transmissions.

Nowadays Extroid CVTs are commonly known as “toroidal” due to the fact that the working surface of driving and driven discs in this transmission has the form of a torus. Extroid CVT is not a V-belt transmission, but a friction drive CVT.

The Automotive Testing Expo 2019, one of the most important events in the field of automotive test, evaluation and quality engineering, was officially closed on 24 October 2019. This year, more than 370 participants presented their innovative test, development, validation and calibration solutions intended for the automotive industry.

The event is America’s largest vehicle and component testing and validation technology and services exhibition. During 3 action-packed days, specialized companies showcased new solutions for every type of vehicle testing imaginable to thousands of visitors from all over the world. The most notable solutions exhibited during the show included the following: ECU testing solution, non-contact rotary torque transducers, body leakage test system, radar test system, test benches for e-motors and e-axles, Ground Traffic Control System, latest improvements in wheel force transducer testing, data analysis software, lubrication testing system, airflow simulators, dyno testing solutions, ADAS recalibration for the aftermarket and much more.

At an Open Technology Forum, visitors had a chance to see informative presentations from key speakers who discussed prospects of using bus data in engineering and shared their visions on how to design and calibrate cars, which will be able to easily pass RDE testing.

During the event, industry experts presented the latest test and next-generation enabling tech solutions specifically designed for AVs and ADAS. Visitors had an opportunity to get some insights on how self-driving cars operate together and to learn how vehicle modeling has to be performed from the component level up.

The list of exhibitors in 2019 included internationally known and recognized companies such as ZF, Schaeffler Group USA Inc, Siemens Industry Inc, Navistar Inc, Mustang Advanced Engineering, AB Dynamics, AVL, and others.
