Porsche Recalls Cayenne and Panamera Models Because of Transmission Issues
Even one little element in your car design can become the reason behind car system failures, especially if this part turns out to be a linking element in the mechanism responsible for keeping your car in place after you park and get out of the car. That's the case in the recent car recall from Porsche. Recently, the carmaker informed about the planned recall of more than 100 thousand sports cars in North America due to potential problems in the gear shifting mechanism leading to rollaway risks.

More than 99 thousand cars must be checked in the USA and almost 9 thousand sports cars will be sent to dealers in Canada. The list of recalled models includes 2010-2016 Porsche Panamera and the 2003-2010 Porsche Cayenne. It should be pointed out that not all cars of specified production years are to be recalled. Owners of Cayenne and Panamera models (of the abovementioned production years) have to contact dealership centers in order to clarify whether their cars require any repair services via VIN number check.

According to recall documents, the problem lies
in the defective cable bushing of the gear shifting mechanism. This bushing
connects the gear lever to the transmission. It is claimed that this component
may be made from poor-quality materials, thus it may wear prematurely and as a
result come off. The detached bushing can cause a lot of problems. For example,
this issue can allow the transmission to potentially be in a different gear
position than the lever’s location. This means that owners of cars with this
defect may put the car in Park, take out their key and get out of the car
absolutely unaware that it may not in reality be in Park. The car may roll away
and cause accidents on the road.
Porsche representatives claim that the company found out about the problem after receiving reports on several incidents related to it, but none of them involved injuries or property damages. The company also didn’t receive any information about road accidents caused by rollaways. Before all the cars included in the recall list are thoroughly checked for gear shifting malfunctions, the automaker recommends owners to use the handbrake every time the car is parked to avoid potential risks. Owners of recalled cars will be notified in the first half of August. Dealership will take on the obligation to replace the faulty part with more durable analogs absolutely free-of-charge.
