Modern auto industry is full of sophisticated drivetrain technologies which are supposed to make your driving experience even more pleasant and trouble-free. Despite a great abundance of sophisticated technical solutions, it is highly likely that very few people know a transmission solution operating like a manual CVT.

Over recent years engineers developed a lot of gear shifting solutions for different car brands, which may seem a bit unusual for oldtime drivers. In this article we will review the most peculiar gear stick technologies and provide video materials related to these technologies.

Only few people know about transmission concepts which were popular 70-90 years ago. For men of today, these gearboxes may seem very unusual and weird, but even now some gearboxes that date back to those years are quite competitive in comparison with modern transmissions.

Nowadays Extroid CVTs are commonly known as “toroidal” due to the fact that the working surface of driving and driven discs in this transmission has the form of a torus. Extroid CVT is not a V-belt transmission, but a friction drive CVT.

PSA Group Brings Production of Aisin Transmission in France

Recently, it has been revealed that PSA Group reached an agreement with Aisin AW to manufacture the EAT6 gearbox in France. Until recently, this transmission was produced by Aisin and imported from Japan, but the growing popularity of automatic gearboxes spurred PSA into action.

Thanks to major investments in the Valenciennes manufacturing plant and partnership with Aisin AW, PSA Group will be able to reach one of its goals – significant increase of sales volume of vehicles with the EAT6 transmission. The manufacturing capacity of this modern facility amounts to 300 thousand transmissions per year. The licensed production of EAT6 transmission in France will correspond to highest standards of Aisin and will live up to expectations of all customers. It is expected that the production of EAT6 will be launched in 2020.

PSA Group is considered to be the second largest car manufacturer in Europe after Volkswagen. This company is the owner of such well-known auto-brands as Peugeot and Citroën. Moreover, in 2017 PSA Group purchased European divisions of Opel and Vauxhall from GM.
