Three Millionth DSG Transmissions Produced at SKODA AUTO’s Vrchlabi Production Facility
Recently, ŠKODA AUTO’s transmission manufacturing facility in Vrchlabí, one of the most technically advanced VW’s sites, has produced the 3-millionth DQ200 automatic direct-shift transmission (DSG). This landmark event underlines the plant’s importance within VW’s global production network. It is said that currently the factory in Vrchlabí manufactures approximately 2,200 DSG units every day.
According to ŠKODA officials, this outstanding achievement proves that even 7 years after the DSG firstly hit the market, this transmission still enjoys unquestioned trust among VW Group brands. Vrchlabí plant representative says that thanks to significant modernization of the facility in 2012, the manufacturing process has been significantly improved in terms of quality and an output rate. All improvements ensure enhanced manufacturing quality and preciseness, even at the most challenging stages of the production process.
At the same time, it should be noted that Skoda
uses only 38% of DSG transmissions produced in Vrchlabí for its own needs, while
other 62% find application in models of other VW Group brands. ŠKODA AUTO
supplies more than 50% of produced DSGs to Germany; other delivery points
include facilities in Europe, Africa, and South Asia. The production of
automotive components in Vrchlabi was launched in 2012 - after the company
underwent extensive modernization.
The DQ200 gearbox is currently available in 22 variants. Each unit consists of 352 parts; the weight of this transmission is 72 kg - it is 8 kg lighter than the 6-speed unit that comes with a double clutch.
