Toyota Australia Recalls Corolla Hatchback because of Transmission Issues
Toyota Australia has reported about the recall of the latest Corolla hatchback model equipped with the 2.0-litre gasoline-powered engine and the CVT transmission because of concerns over possible defects in the gearbox. Owners of this model, which, in fact, is one of the most highly-demanded cars in Australia, get into car accidents due to this problem.
According to Toyota officials, the problem lies in the fact that there is a high chance that due to a production defect, the blades of the pump impeller in the torque converter may come loose, leading to a negative impact on the unit and possible decrease of impelling force. It is important to note that the recall has been issued less than 4 months after this model entered the market.
The abovementioned problem may manifest itself
in 2,640 cars manufactured in Japan, with more than a thousand of them already
being repaired. It is expected that spare parts required for elimination of
this issue will be provided in late winter 2019. Owners of cars included in the
recall list will be notified when dealers receive spare parts.

Therefore, Corolla drivers will need to continue
using their cars for a while. The Japanese carmaker reported that Toyota
dealers will tear down the faulty gearbox and install the new one. It is
expected that the complete procedure will take about 10 hours. Toyota
representatives guarantee that all affected car owners will get a vehicle for
the time needed for their Corollas to be fixed at the nominated service station.
All services will be performed absolutely free-of-charge.
According to the statistics, Toyota is one of the most popular car makes in Australia, with an 18.9 % market share, with the Hilux and Corolla taking out the 1-st and 3-rd places on the sales charts in November 2018. The recall affects the cars sold in Australia, China and North America.
