Probably every transmission repair specialist was keen on LEGO constructions or at least enjoyed making some minor things with their hands. Here's the game taken to a new level of creativity!

Modern auto industry is full of sophisticated drivetrain technologies which are supposed to make your driving experience even more pleasant and trouble-free. Despite a great abundance of sophisticated technical solutions, it is highly likely that very few people know a transmission solution operating like a manual CVT.

Over recent years engineers developed a lot of gear shifting solutions for different car brands, which may seem a bit unusual for oldtime drivers. In this article we will review the most peculiar gear stick technologies and provide video materials related to these technologies.

Only few people know about transmission concepts which were popular 70-90 years ago. For men of today, these gearboxes may seem very unusual and weird, but even now some gearboxes that date back to those years are quite competitive in comparison with modern transmissions.

Nowadays Extroid CVTs are commonly known as “toroidal” due to the fact that the working surface of driving and driven discs in this transmission has the form of a torus. Extroid CVT is not a V-belt transmission, but a friction drive CVT.

ZF Presents New Tech Solutions for Trucks At Comtrans 2019

ZF has recently presented a variety of technical solutions for large and medium-sized vehicles at the 15-th international exhibition of commercial vehicles Comtrans 2019 hosted in Moscow.

According to ZF representatives, visitors of the show had a chance to see the latest transmission solutions at the ZF booth: modular automated transmission TraXon intended for heavy trucks, automated transmission EcoTronic, automatic transmission EcoLife, and a transfer case TC27. These developments, as stated by ZF, are notable for lightweight designs with a low level of harmful emissions and noise pollution, as well as high fuel efficiency. In addition, ZF also showcased in Moscow several solutions designed specifically for city buses: the central e-drive CeTrax and the electric bridge-type axle AxTrax AVE, which can be adapted in existing automobile platforms without any significant changes to the chassis design.

The ZF’s stand at Comtrans 2019 also exhibited the electric power steering known as ReAX (which “analyzes” the driving style as well as the applied steering force and makes the process of driving easier and more precise), the steering booster pump with the e-actuator eActivMode (which enhances fuel economy and regulates the overall system temperature).

To enhance comfort and safety when driving, ZF offers air suspension and a pneumatic module with an adjusting mechanism to maintain a constant cab position (CALM). Special attention during the exhibition was paid to the CDC shock absorber with electronic stiffness control. This absorber flexibly and accurately adapts to a specific road situation and, regardless of the road surface, keeps the vehicle in the most stable position.
