Modern auto industry is full of sophisticated drivetrain technologies which are supposed to make your driving experience even more pleasant and trouble-free. Despite a great abundance of sophisticated technical solutions, it is highly likely that very few people know a transmission solution operating like a manual CVT.

Over recent years engineers developed a lot of gear shifting solutions for different car brands, which may seem a bit unusual for oldtime drivers. In this article we will review the most peculiar gear stick technologies and provide video materials related to these technologies.

Only few people know about transmission concepts which were popular 70-90 years ago. For men of today, these gearboxes may seem very unusual and weird, but even now some gearboxes that date back to those years are quite competitive in comparison with modern transmissions.

Nowadays Extroid CVTs are commonly known as “toroidal” due to the fact that the working surface of driving and driven discs in this transmission has the form of a torus. Extroid CVT is not a V-belt transmission, but a friction drive CVT.

It's a well-known joke that a manual gearbox is one of the most anti-theft systems you can have on a car. However, sometimes even an automatic transmission can become an unsolvable problem for criminals who are bankrupt of intelligence. And recent report from The Daily Mail proved the point.

According to the newspaper, a laughable accident has recently occurred in England, where two unfortunate and low-skilled thieves tried to steal a £200,000 Ferrari, but faced the problem of shifting gears in the 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and found nothing better than fleeing the crime scene.

This epic crime took place on the evening of February 19 in West Midlands, when the owners of the house weren’t home. Criminals intruded into the house and collected things of value. As they began putting their loot into the trunk of a stolen Audi, they suddenly found the keys to the supercar among stolen things.

According to security tapes, two simpletons had no problems in getting into the Ferrari and even managed to start the car and engage the R gear as they started their escape. And then their lucky streak ended. They just failed to engage the D gear. Instead, they just left the Ferrari on the road and ran away. The owner of the car heard about the house robbery and unsuccessful car robbery when a neighbor called. Unfortunately, thieves took away all valuables stolen from the house. It is known that some blood was found in the car.

According to the police, it's unclear where the blood came from, but detectives suspect that one of the thieves may have injured himself on some broken glass climbing into the house, but we all know that’s not their biggest fiasco of the night.
