Probably every transmission repair specialist was keen on LEGO constructions or at least enjoyed making some minor things with their hands. Here's the game taken to a new level of creativity!

Modern auto industry is full of sophisticated drivetrain technologies which are supposed to make your driving experience even more pleasant and trouble-free. Despite a great abundance of sophisticated technical solutions, it is highly likely that very few people know a transmission solution operating like a manual CVT.

Over recent years engineers developed a lot of gear shifting solutions for different car brands, which may seem a bit unusual for oldtime drivers. In this article we will review the most peculiar gear stick technologies and provide video materials related to these technologies.

Only few people know about transmission concepts which were popular 70-90 years ago. For men of today, these gearboxes may seem very unusual and weird, but even now some gearboxes that date back to those years are quite competitive in comparison with modern transmissions.

Nowadays Extroid CVTs are commonly known as “toroidal” due to the fact that the working surface of driving and driven discs in this transmission has the form of a torus. Extroid CVT is not a V-belt transmission, but a friction drive CVT.

Insane Corvette Dragster is On Sale

With a price tag reaching almost $60 grand, the new Chevy Stingray is an undisputed performance car bargain. Power is provided by a 6.2-liter V8 that gives 495 hp and 637 Nm of torque, which is transferred to the rear wheels via an 8-speed DCT transmission. Compared to conventional automatics, this 8-speed compact unit does not use a torque converter to start the car. Instead, the double-clutch setup activates friction discs that ensure a better responsiveness — exactly what is needed in performance-oriented cars.

Thanks to the Z51 Package, the C8 Corvette will hit 0-62 mph in less than 3 seconds – that's nearly as fast as the latest Z06 and ZR1 models. It is also claimed that this powerful sports car will do the quarter-mile in 11.3 seconds at 121 mph. However, as it has been recently discovered, now you can buy a dedicated Corvette dragster for $12,000 less than the Stingray.

C5 dragster

Listed for sale in Canada, this racing car comes with a Suncoast fiberglass C5 Corvette body and is claimed to cover the quarter-mile distance in only 7.5 secs. And this trusty beast can be purchased for just $38,500.

Regarding the powertrain details, this car comes with a Chevy big-block engine paired with the Powerglide transmission unit. At the same time, this unique vehicle weighs only 2,300 pounds, which is substantially lighter than a C5 Corvette road model. According to the provided description, it also has a mandrel-bent four-link coilover suspension assembly and uses Strange double adjustable shock and spring assemblies. The specification also includes Wilwood disc brakes on all 4 corners and Dana 60 housings with Strange 4.88 ratio gearing.

Safety mechanisms integrated in this dragster also include a Moroso double transmission cooler, making the gear shifting unit from overheating heat-resistant, and a full chrome-moly roll cage. As the C5 dragster came to the starting line for the first time in 2007, it's only had around 100 runs, so it's almost brand new according to the seller. It's been up for sale since February 2016, so this beast is begging to return to the drag strip.
