Allison designed its HT family of gearboxes for heavy trucks together with AT and MT families. For the HT, Allison engineers found the way to combine the effectiveness of company’s smaller gearboxes with the enhanced reliability of recognized Allison solutions. As a result, they came up with the transmission for heavy trucks capable of operating under heavy loads. This solution worked well for heavy trucks on different types of road surface. An HT uses fewer gears to ensure the same range of ratios as manuals. The torque converter is equipped with a lock-up clutch to enhance fuel economy and operational characteristics at road speeds. The planetary gear design ensures smooth gear shifting without any interruptions in power delivery. Trucks equipped with this transmission can speed up much faster than trucks with manuals or AMTs.
