Becoming A Porsche Technician: Apprenticeship Program
Celebrates 20 Years
Porsche cars have never been notable for low prices, but for top-quality and superb performance characteristics. Porsche owners frequently try to use the operational capacities of their cars on the road to the fullest extent, thereby exposing powertrain components to high loads. To keep Porsche cars in perfect operational conditions, they must be serviced by true professionals. That’s where specially trained Porsche technicians come into play.
More than a thousand of Porsche repair
specialists currently work in 191 dealer centers across the US. More than 1/3
of them successfully completed the Porsche Technology Apprenticeship Program
(PTAP), which recently has celebrated its 20th anniversary. Graduates of this
course are exactly those technicians you can totally count on when it comes to
the quality repair of Porsche cars. But what would it really take to become a
Porsche technician?
The most part of the program applicants
have already finished the Automotive Technology course from the Universal
Technical Institute, and only the most successful candidates get a chance to
take part in the following tests. These tests include a psychological
evaluation, a test of their technical expertise and a face-to-face interview.
Only a dozen of the best applicants get a unique opportunity to take the 23-week
training program, which includes 16 core and 38 web-based courses. Practical
classes include insights into repair methods of the most complicated car
systems, including electrical systems.
The representative of PCNA, the importer of Porsche vehicles for the US, said that the PTAP program plays a key role in keeping Porsche customers 100 % satisfied. PCNA and its dealer centers provide financial support to Porsche technician training, as new Porsche models get more sophisticated powertrain systems, which will certainly require professional maintenance. The main purpose of the training program is to establish a basis of brand dedication and expertise that will help serve clients for many years to come. PTAP classes are conducted by technical experts who also turn out to be Porsche Master Level Technicians. The PTAP program courses are taught in 1 of 3 Porsche training centers in the US.
Demand for auto repair specialists is increasing more rapidly than the supply. According to some predictions, there will be approximately 46,000 new workplaces in the auto repair industry by 2026. All graduates of this training program – 72 annually – receive job offers from official Porsche dealer centers, where they have a great chance to grow and develop together with the Company. Many PTAP graduates also become instructors, support specialists and managers in PCNA. The next group of trainees will graduate in Atlanta in the second half of August. Porsche has been recently ranked 1-st in the 2019 J.D. Power Customer Service Index.
