Cadillac V-Series to Include Manual Transmission Options
Manual transmissions seem to become a rare thing in powertrain designs of new cars, but it seems like Cadillac plans to keep stick shifters alive. The continuing story around powertrain details of Cadillac’s upcoming CT4-V and CT5-V models has already created a lot of speculations, and the latest rumors say that both cars will receive well-known GM performance-oriented engines and most interestingly, manual transmissions. Automotive media sources tried to clarify the situation directly with Cadillac, but the company refused to elaborate on the upcoming products.

The CT5-V model is expected to be equipped with
the 6.2-liter LT4 V-8 that has already found application in some of new
Chevrolet models. This engine has the power capacity of 650 hp along with an
equal torque rate. It should be noted that the previous models equipped in the
"Blackwing" V-8 made just 550 hp in the CT6-V with 850 Nm. Coupled
with a manual gearbox, this would be the 1-st time a sporty Cadillac has got
such a drivetrain design since 2015 when the CTS-V was taken out of production.
2020 Cadillac CT4 V
The CT4-V
is assumed to come with the 3.6-liter V-6 engine, which produces 464 hp and 603
Nm. That's a significant increase when compared to the standard CT4-V is
limited to a 320 hp rate.
In addition to a 6-speed manual option, both
new models are also anticipated to include 10-speed automatics as an option.
The new V-cars will also stick with their RWD configuration, which makes them
quite uncommon for the modern automotive market.
However, for some people these powertrain
changes seem like a wishful thinking, as GM currently makes serious
cost-cutting efforts as a part of its corporate restructuring plan. Many car
enthusiasts hope that a manual option is truly coming for both models, but with
extremely low sales figures on manual models, it seems highly unlikely for
Cadillac to take such risks.

Despite the fact that most automakers are currently giving up on manuals and the automation/electrification trends gaining momentum, it could be a great way for Cadillac to distinguish itself in the automotive world.
