Probably every transmission repair specialist was keen on LEGO constructions or at least enjoyed making some minor things with their hands. Here's the game taken to a new level of creativity!

Modern auto industry is full of sophisticated drivetrain technologies which are supposed to make your driving experience even more pleasant and trouble-free. Despite a great abundance of sophisticated technical solutions, it is highly likely that very few people know a transmission solution operating like a manual CVT.

Over recent years engineers developed a lot of gear shifting solutions for different car brands, which may seem a bit unusual for oldtime drivers. In this article we will review the most peculiar gear stick technologies and provide video materials related to these technologies.

Only few people know about transmission concepts which were popular 70-90 years ago. For men of today, these gearboxes may seem very unusual and weird, but even now some gearboxes that date back to those years are quite competitive in comparison with modern transmissions.

Nowadays Extroid CVTs are commonly known as “toroidal” due to the fact that the working surface of driving and driven discs in this transmission has the form of a torus. Extroid CVT is not a V-belt transmission, but a friction drive CVT.

Eaton Expands Its PTO and Clutch Lines

During the recent HDAW exhibition, Eaton has revealed the details on the expansion of its clutch and PTO portfolios. Advantage Automated Series clutches and two new Bezares PTO solutions will find application in a variety of vehicles and transmissions available on the North American (NA) market. These new solutions prove the company’s intention to provide its American customers with efficient solutions.

The new clutches can be installed in the most common automated gearboxes mostly utilized in NA, including the following:

These robust clutches can handle the unique needs of automated gear shifting units, which find application on more than 75 % of new heavy-duty trucks sold in NA. Designs of these clutches include the following elements: a clutch bracket with a hardened steel pivot ring, which better withstands higher loads, and bigger spring fingers for better wear-resistance when compared to analogs currently available on the automotive market.

Advantage Automated Series clutches

The 95X and 120X Series PTOs intended for Endurant and DT12 units respectively come with aluminum casings to combine heavy-duty strength with light weight. These PTOs are expected to amend installation clearance on the vehicle. One year ago, Eaton reported that one of its division had an agreement with Bezares SA to become its NA authorized distributor for auxiliary hydraulic equipment.

The Bezares 95X series is notable for its lightweight and space-saving design. It features pneumatic shifting and is available with 3 various internal ratios. The offset structure improves the position of a mounted pump to exclude any interference with other vehicle components. The two-gear 120X series PTO fits models DT-12 transmission models. Thanks to its internal ratios, the 120X PTO series connects to the auxiliary systems of the DT12 unit and provides 4 various output variants. The PTO mechanism casing is supposed to improve clearance and simplify the process of installation. Eaton plans to add the Bezares products to its online Order Center, which includes a lot of features helping its customers to find and buy the company’s products.
