PowerShift Transmission Continues to Bring Ford a Lot of Trouble
Recently, Ford’s PowerShift transmission has been the source of severe problems. This transmission has been widely criticized for its unreliability during service and for frequent failures. Last year, the cases (related to the defected PowerShift transmission) against the American Auto Giant were brought to court in Thailand and Australia and the company was fined with significant penalties. But it seems like the Ford’s PowerShift troubles just getting started. According to numerous media reports, Ford could soon face a huge penalty (approx. $4 billion) for intentionally misinforming the customers with the aim to sell cars equipped with the defected transmission.
More than 1.9 million of dissatisfied customers, who bought or leased a 2012-2016 Focus or 2011-2016 Fiesta equipped with PowerShifts ( also known as DPS6/6DCT250) , argue that the automaker purposely gave misleading information in an attempt to sell the cars to unsuspecting buyers. Afterwards, Ford fastened the blame for any issues related to the transmission upon car owners.

According to the documents of the case in court,
the abovementioned DCT transmission was notable for vibrations, slippages,
snatching, hesitation during gear shifting, early wear of internal parts,
operating delays, in sometimes sudden or delayed acceleration.
Responding to the allegations, the carmaker
representative told to the media that Ford is devoted to offering its customers
a prime-quality car only. The company denies all accusations presented in this
lawsuit. However, instead of facing years of legal wrangling, the carmaker
considers the option of a settlement agreement and actively discusses this opportunity
with lawyers of the complainant party. In the view of Ford representatives,
this solution will be just for both parties. Representatives of the complainant
party assume that the carmaker wants to significantly reduce sizes of payments
on this case by the settlement agreement.
In contrast to previous legal proceedings related to transmission manufacturing issues, the new lawsuit points out the fact that Ford knew about the transmission issues, but did not take any measures to make things right. A final court decision is expected to be announced at the end of this year. If the settlement agreement won’t be approved, the court may lay Ford under an obligation to pay about a $4 billion settlement to misguided customers.
